Portland dream-punk trio Cry Babe will make their vinyl debut on January 12 with “Fell in Love With a Spirit,” a sprawling study of haunted sounds seemingly designed for gray winter days and long, lonely nights. This is the kind of stuff Drunk Dial Records lives for, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to help Cry Babe get their beautiful vibes out into the world.

The original on the A-side is backed with a lovely little surprise: a cover of Hole’s “Violet” that transforms the nineties classic into a wrenching, reverb-soaked showcase for the vocal work of Cry Babe frontwoman Anaïs Genevieve, whose stricken, soaring croon is one of the best things happening in Portland music right now.

The Portland Mercury called Cry Babe “one of the city’s most promising new bands,” and the fine folks at Fish Hickey described their sound as “music that settles into your bones and makes your heart shake.” We are in full agreement with these highly accurate assessments. Which is why we had to get Cry Babe into the studio ASAP.
